Ever felt the urge to punch someone?
I took my middle son to a football tournament yesterday.
Bad enough that I was THE ONLY parent willing to drive the 55 km to the tournament (the question as to WHY on earth our trainers would accept a tournament that far away springs to mind)
Still, 6 kids and I in my car, 5 + male trainer in one and 4+ female trainer in the other set off to the game from hell.
Cutting this short here, first two games we lost, did not expect anything else, it was meant to be for “experience” – right 😦
Then one other parent turned up, a father of one of our boys.
God help us I thought, not him, pleeeeease. Last time he attended a game, there was a brawl at the side of the pitch, involving him, one of the other teams fathers, his wife, their child as well as our fathers son. Police was called…..need I say more?
Anyhow, back to yesterday, first the other teams trainer started shouting, accusing the referee to be partial – ehm, get real mate, he just gave your team TWO free kicks!! It went on like this until the referee told him to sh… up or bugger off.
This caused friction with the kids, they started pushing each other. Unfortunately, “our” fathers son got pushed (and pushed back I might add) which caused his father to move dangerously close to the pitch.
Which caused our trainer to call off the game (knowing what “daddy” was like)
Which resulted in the kids arguing (peacefully might)
Which cause “daddy” to go onto the pitch, arguing with the other kids and “shushing” them off the pitch.
Which resulted in other parents entering the pitch.
Which caused their kids to walk into a bulk of our kids.
Which resulted in me pulling our kids back before they could do any serious damage.
Which caused us to go home early – voluntarily.
All in all a thoroughly successful tournament – aaaaaarrrrrgh
