A while back, I sat at work, plodding along when suddenly, the computer system went on the blink, the screens just went black. My colleagues and I looked at each other and within a minute or so, the system came up again.
Okay, we thought, just one of those things.
Next minute, the same happened again, this time, for about five minutes. We tried to call our IT guy but of course, phones and computers are running on the same line.
Luckily, I had his number in my mobile and asked him to check it out. As we spoke, the system came back on, only to go on the blank again a couple of seconds later.
Mr IT said he could not detect and error (obviously since he could not log himself in) so he jumped in the car and came down (only half an hours drive during which time our system danced away to the tune of ” now you´ve got me, now you don´t”).
Upon arrival, Mr IT checked all the lines, simply could not figure out what was happening and about three or four times, he came up saying, solved, when in fact it wasn´t. By that time, the whole company was up and arms, totally unable to work.
Then suddenly, Mr IT came up and said – got it, solved it – and burst out laughing. “What´s up?”, I asked, “what was it”?
Turns out, sometime, someone incorrectly laid some powerlines and as our electrician tried to fix a broken light in the gents, duly turning the electrical switch for safety reasons, he also cut off the electricity to our state of the arc computer system.
